Chapin Clark Memorial Endowment Fund
Oregon Water Trust is investing in its own future by creating the Chapin Clark Memorial Endowment Fund. The Fund is named in honor of Chapin Clark, long-time water law professor and former dean of the University of Oregon School of Law, who passed away in 2002 in a boating accident on the Rogue River. Chapin was a charter board member and long-time supporter of OWT. The purpose of the Fund is to build a corpus that will produce net appreciation in perpetuity to fund our streamflow restoration activities across the state. To learn more about the Fund or to make a contribution, please contact Fritz Paulus, Executive Director, at 503-227-4464.
Gifts of Securities OWT accepts gifts of securities (stocks and bonds). Securities have become an attractive means of giving because they often provide greater tax benefit to the donor than a gift of cash. Appreciated securities that have been held for more than 12 months can be deducted from your taxable income at their fair market value without paying capital gains tax on the appreciated portion of the gift. Gifts of securities are valued at their fair market value on the date the certificates are transferred to OWT. For publicly traded securities, the fair market value is computed as the average of the high and low market prices on the date of transfer. OWT’s general policy is to sell securities given to the organization. If securities are held by a broker, the stock can be transferred directly to OWT’s brokerage account. You or your broker should call Fritz Paulus, Executive Director, at (503) 227-4464, for instructions regarding disposition of the securities and to confirm the date of transfer. If you wish to initiate the process yourself, please print out the Letter of Authorization form below, fill it out and deliver it to your broker.
